JAKE BARTFIELD - BASS

Jake has been playing the bass since he was 12 years old. His reason at the time for wanting to learn the instrument was so he could be in a rock band with his friends. At the time he played cello and bass guitar, both with four strings, seemed like a natural transition. It was only after he had been playing for a couple years that he realized what a great choice he had made and what a vital, fundamental role bass plays in almost every musical style.

He played his first paying gigs when he was 16, and in 12th grade, he was a regular member of a professional blues band. He attended Berklee College of Music in 2002, and graduated in 2006. After college, he worked for a few years in one of the top wedding bands in Boston. They had the opportunity to play some big events, including functions for City Year, and a couple events for The Boston Red Sox, including a gig at Fenway Park. When he was in Boston, he played and recorded with several groups. In 2009 he played on a tour in Korea.

He moved to LA in September of 2011, and has continued to play bass guitar and upright bass with many different bands of varying styles including jazz, rock, pop, folk, and country. He can be heard playing bass and cello on in the upcoming documentary “Kunta Kinteh Ishand”, and he appeared as a musician in an episode of Glee (season 3 episode 12).

He's been teaching for the past few years, first in Boston, and now in LA, where besides teaching is a very in demand bassist.
